The minor surgery service includes several components: cryotherapy (warts, skin tags), injections (shoulder, elbow, knee, trochanteric bursa, Arnold's nerve, median nerve), excision of cysts, seborrheic keratosis, and nevi (moles). You must be referred by your family doctor at the GMF.

We offer simple dressing change services after a medical evaluation. However, please note that for injuries requiring more extensive care, we will take the time to properly assess you and then refer you to the CLSC.

Clinical nurses perform screening of sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STIs) is performed for asymptomatic patients at GMF Mercier. Samples are collected using a cotton swab from the cervix or urethra, or using a urine sample for screening for gonorrhea or chlamydia. A blood test is required for syphilis, HIV, or hepatitis screening. The clinical nurse will inform you of the symptoms to watch for regarding these infections and will review preventive measures with you. Schedule an appointment directly with a clinical nurse if you are a patient registered with a family doctor at the GMF. An appointment with a doctor is not necessary unless you present symptoms such as: urinary burning, pelvic pain, or abnormal bleeding.

If you suffer from allergies, a treatment for allergen desensitization (ragweed, birch, etc.) in the form of an injection can be administered by a practical nurse.

However, this treatment must be prescribed by an allergist.

The ear, particularly the canal and the eardrum, are very sensitive. The buildup of earwax can damage these structures over time. This can affect your hearing. Removing excess earwax through ear irrigation is a safe way to minimize the risk of damage to the ears.

Sometimes, foreign objects such as food, insects, or small stones can enter the ear. In these cases, the goal is to remove the objects quickly and safely before they become further embedded in the ear or cause damage to the canal. Ear irrigation can be effective in removing foreign bodies from the ear.

You must consult with one of our doctors or a nurse practitioner before being referred for ear irrigation.

Make an appointment with the practical nurse at the mini emergency if you need ear irrigation.

The nutritionist works on aspects related to nutrition and diet. Her interventions cover promotion, prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. The nutritionist aims to maintain, improve, or restore nutritional status and health in collaboration with your family doctor and other healthcare professionals at GMF Mercier. The nutritionist evaluates your nutritional status and lifestyle habits, and proposes a treatment plan based on your clinical problem. She provides education and gives nutritional advice.

Upon the recommendation of your family doctor, the conditions for which you may benefit from a nutritionist include: diabetes, hypertension, heart failure, obesity, digestive disorders, allergies, food intolerance, weight loss, anemia, osteoporosis, and nausea and vomiting in pregnant women.

Practitioner nurses and doctors at the clinic offer the IUD insertion service. (seulement sur référence de votre médecin de famille).

An IUD insertion is a simple and short procedure but requires three visits.

You should allow about 20 minutes for the first appointment.

You will receive information about the different types of IUDs available. Following your doctor's advice, you will be able to choose the type of IUD you desire. Instructions and the intervention consent form will be provided during this appointment. You will need to bring the prescription for the IUD to your pharmacist.

For the second appointment, plan for approximately 40 minutes.

You must have your IUD with you. You will also need to take pain medication one hour before your appointment time. A 15-20 minute observation period is planned following the insertion.

The third visit is scheduled eight weeks after the insertion to ensure the tolerance and proper placement of the IUD.

Liquid nitrogen is used to treat certain skin conditions through cold therapy.

This includes plantar warts, common warts on the hands, actinic or seborrheic keratoses, molluscums, and skin tags. If you have one of these conditions requiring liquid nitrogen treatment, your family doctor will refer you for the procedure.

If you require multiple treatments, an additional visit will be scheduled. Warts often require several treatments, and you can make an appointment at our mini-emergency with our practical nurses.

The social worker evaluates social functioning from a perspective of support and recovery in relation to the individual’s environment. The expertise of the social worker and that of the family doctor are complementary in the overall evaluation of the patient's health and well-being. In collaboration with your family doctor and by their referral, the social worker conducts the detection and prevention of social issues. She identifies your needs and the resources available to you. For crisis situations, she provides short-term interventions, up to a maximum of 12 sessions.

Vaccination for children is administered at the CLSC, as well as vaccines related to COVID-19.

We offer vaccination services for the following vaccines:

Tetanus, Pneumovax23, Whooping cough, Mumps-Measles-Rubella.

For the seasonal flu vaccination in the fall-winter, you will need to consult directly with the CLSC in your region.
